The Center for Clean Air Policy–Europe (CCAP-Europe) is a non-profit organization governed by the provisions of Title I of the Belgian Act of 27 June 1921 on non-profit associations, international non-profit associations and foundations. It was established in January 2008.
The purpose of CCAP–Europe is to independently take initiatives to significantly advance cost-effective and pragmatic air quality and climate policy through research, analysis, dialogue and public education. CCAP-Europe actively educates and involves a broad range of stakeholders worldwide in the formulation, promotion and adoption of such initiatives, in each case with a specific focus on Europe and other areas of the world particularly impacted by air quality and climate issues.
Timm Kraegenow is the director of CCAP-Europe in Brussels. Much of the operating capacity of CCAP-Europe is provided through a formal “services agreement” with the Center for Clean Air Policy, a U.S. based international think tank established in 1985. The services agreement covers all staff, support, technology and administrative expense borne by CCAP on behalf of the projects based out of CCAP-Europe. Since 2004, CCAP has had a physical presence in the EU with staff in Brussels, Paris and Lisbon. In 2006, CCAP began a major initiative focused on EU climate policy, the “European Dialogue on the Energy and Climate Challenge.” The entity CCAP-Europe was formed in 2008 to effectively support projects like the European Dialogue, liaise with entities and government representatives in the EU, more effectively support projects internationally and promote the projects of the European Commission.
Current funders of CCAP–Europe include the European Commission and the European Climate Foundation.
